Mercredi matin, nous nous sommes levés aux aurores pour assister à la conférence « Blockchain et propriété intellectuelle » organisée par le cabinet juridique international Gowling WLG<\/b>. <\/p>

Le but de cette rencontre qui s’est déroulée au Musée McCord<\/b> de Montréal, était d’expliquer comment les concepts liés à la propriété intellectuelle peuvent être appliqués à la blockchain. <\/p>

C’est Benoit Yelle<\/b>, Associé et agent de brevet chez Gowling WLG qui a donné cette conférence qui a commencé par une rapide explication de ce qu’est la blockchain. Parmi la centaine de personnes présentes dans l’auditorium, beaucoup sont en effet issus du domaine des affaires, du droit, et donc pas nécessairement familiers avec le concept de blockchain. Mais grâce à une bonne vulgarisation de la part de Benoit Yelle, en quelques minutes, les bases ont été posées, ce qui lui a permis de rentrer dans le vif du sujet : la propriété intellectuelle. <\/p>

Parmi les faits saillants de cette conférence, on retiendra notamment que la blockchain pourrait s’appliquer à de nombreux domaines liés à la propriété intellectuelle :<\/p>

– Le droit d’auteur
\n– La marque de commerce
\n– Le secret commercial
\n– Le dessin industriel
\n– Le brevet d’invention<\/p>

On retiendra également que le nombre de demandes de brevets déposées qui sont en lien avec la blockchain ou le Bitcoin est en constante évolution. La première demande a été déposée en 2011. En 2015, il y en a eu 204 et 532 en 2017. Selon Gowling WLG, le nombre de demandes de brevets dans ce domaine est exponentiel. <\/p>

Parmi les gros joueurs traditionnels qui déposent le plus de demandes de brevets « blockchain », on remarquera un trio de tête pour le moins significatif : IBM<\/b>, Bank of America<\/b> et Mastercard<\/b>. « Ce sont des compagnies qui veulent se trouver une niche afin de maintenir leur position » a commenté Benoit Yelle. Selon lui, « La technologie blockchain va connaître une évolution semblable à celle des télécommunications dans les années 90, c’est du moins l’hypothèse que je fais ». <\/p>
