(@cz_binance) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1238910867007131648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 14, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>BUSD was launched in September 2019 in collaboration with Paxos with approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/changpeng-zhao\/\">Changpeng Zhao<\/a>, the CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance\/\">Binance<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/binance-partners-with-paxos-to-launch-usd-backed-stablecoin-busd-300912034.html\">said<\/a> at the time:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We hope to unlock more financial services for the greater blockchain ecosystem through the issuance of BUSD, including more use cases and utility through the power of stable digital assets.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Uncertainty in the global financial market has rattled crypto, but Bitcoin isn't performing all that bad<\/h2>\n<p>Amidst heightened fear towards the coronavirus pandemic, the global stock market downtrend has shown a clear lack of appetite from investors towards high-risk assets in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>While Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, in general, cannot be categorized as a risk-on asset as of yet, the frantic sell-off of all asset classes including gold, has led the crypto market to pull back.<\/p>\n<p>As investors increasingly moved towards the stablecoin market as a hedge to uncertainty in crypto, major stablecoins have started to overtake top cryptocurrencies in terms of market capitalization.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_128115\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128115\" style=\"width: 2223px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-128115\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-2.png\" alt=\"bitcoin crypto\" width=\"2223\" height=\"1408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-2.png 2223w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-2-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-2-1024x649.png 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-2-768x486.png 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-2-1536x973.png 1536w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-2-2048x1297.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2223px) 100vw, 2223px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-128115\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Bitcoin price dropped to $3,600, breaking below all major support levels (source: tradingview.com)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As of March 17, Binance's BUSD ranks as the 35th largest crypto asset by market capitalization, overtaking cryptocurrencies like Hedera Hashgraph, TrueUSD, and VeChain.<\/p>\n<p>The rapid increase in the market capitalization of BUSD primarily shows that the confidence of investors towards an NYSDF-regulated stablecoin is noticeably rising amidst a severe crypto market correction.<\/p>\n<h2>Will the rise of stablecoins continue?<\/h2>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/chris-burniske\/\">Chris Burniske<\/a>, partner at New York-based venture capital firm Placeholder, the bottom of Bitcoin may have not been hit in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-hashrate-barely-dropped-price-crash-to-3600-heres-why-its-a-positive-sign\/\">recent correction to $3,600.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Burniske <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cburniske\/status\/1239585594558169089\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Lots of people asking where BTC bottoms. The short of it is I wouldn\u2019t be surprised to see a retest of our 2018 lows near $3000.
