{"id":173409,"date":"2020-10-05T14:00:55","date_gmt":"2020-10-05T13:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=173409"},"modified":"2020-11-07T14:17:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-07T14:17:06","slug":"yearn-finance-faces-capitulatory-decline-as-investors-remove-the-cronje-premium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/yearn-finance-faces-capitulatory-decline-as-investors-remove-the-cronje-premium\/","title":{"rendered":"Yearn.finance faces capitulatory decline as investors remove the \u201cCronje premium\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The price of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/yearn-finance\/\">Yearn.finance\u2019s governance token<\/a> \u2013 YFI \u2013 has been plummeting as of late, with the sell-side pressure overwhelming the cryptocurrency\u2019s bulls as it shatters multiple key support levels that were previously boosting its outlook.<\/p>\n<p>This has struck a blow to the community sentiment that has been so pivotal for incubating its growth, which has been compounded by the exit of prominent members of both the Yearn team and community \u2013 like \u201cBlue Kirby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Part of this current technical weakness has undoubtedly come about as a result of the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/why-analysts-are-concerned-with-yearn-finance-yfi-following-emn-debacle\/\">controversy surrounding Eminence<\/a> (EMN) \u2013 a project created by Yearn founder <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/andre-cronje\/\">Andre Cronje<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although the contract for this project was under development, some users began manually minting tokens by depositing DAI. Unfortunately, an exploit led these return-hungry investors to lose their deposit crypto.<\/p>\n<p>This wasn\u2019t explicitly Cronje\u2019s fault, of course, because it was clear that the contract was still under development.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, it still rocked investors' faith in him, with their bitterness sparking the downtrend that is still leading Yearn.finance lower. That being said, it is still trading below $20,000, which has proven to be a key level on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n<p>Another rejection here could prove to be grave and potentially lead to further downside in the near-term.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Economist: YFI\u2019s downtrend is the market\u2019s way of \u201cremoving the Cronje premium\u201d<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/alex-kruger\/\">Alex Kr\u00fcger<\/a> \u2013 a respected crypto-focused economist \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/classicmacro\/status\/1312711201596624898\">spoke about<\/a> the ongoing Yearn.finance selloff, explaining that he believes this is coming about due to investors removing the \u201cCronje premium\u201d from its market dynamic.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYFI has been getting Creamed. Recent underperformance relative to other cryptos has been notable. One could argue it is the chart. But it is not. One can find plenty equally poor charts across crypto.
