This was not intended for his personal account, however, with Suarez stating that Miami\u2019s treasury funds could find their way to Bitcoin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe hope to make our City of Miami one of the most crypto-forward and technologically advanced cities,\u201d Suarez said in the tweet.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We hope to make our City of Miami one of the most crypto-forward and technologically advanced cities. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eagwXou1fq\">https:\/\/t.co\/eagwXou1fq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Mayor Francis Suarez (@FrancisSuarez) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FrancisSuarez\/status\/1349794493856415744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 14, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suarez is already lamenting not buying the world\u2019s biggest crypto asset earlier. As per a related report on <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/technology\/miami-mayor-bitcoin-invest-cryptocurrency.amp?__twitter_impression=true\"><i>Fox Business<\/i><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Miami Mayor said that the reserves could have been \u201c200 percent plus\u201d had he committed to the plan earlier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mayor added that Miami was even looking into allowing citizens to pay taxes and fees to the city in Bitcoin, stating it was already looking to create a regulatory framework that made the city of Miami \u201cthe easiest place in the United States to do business if you're doing it in cryptocurrencies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suarez noted:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>\u201cI want the creative and the innovative class to come here and create high-paying jobs for my residents.\u201d<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He added that Bitcoin was a \u201ca very attractive investment\u201d and that the city of Miami is even considering \u201cdiversifying our investment portfolio\u201d and holding a percentage of investments in Bitcoin, as per <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fox<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Growing demand&#8230;or FOMO?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcoin has been embraced in a big way by hedge fund managers, government officials, and technology entrepreneurs in the past year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May 2020, Paul Tudor Jones called Bitcoin the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/investor-calls-bitcoin-the-fastest-horse-as-he-reveals-holding-bitcoin-futures-to-hedge-against-massive-inflation\/\">fastest horse<\/a>\u201d to bet on and purchased over $70 million worth of Bitcoin futures. He was joined by other fund managers in similar efforts as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, in August, business intelligence company <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/these-are-the-investors-backing-microstrategys-bitcoin-investment\/\">MicroStrategy purchased over $250 million worth<\/a> of Bitcoin, followed by another $175 million purchase the next month. The spree didn\u2019t end, however: By December 2020, MicroStrategy picked up another $650 million worth of Bitcoin using a convertible note, bringing its total holdings to over $1 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is an absolutely massive catalyst and signal for what&#39;s coming across the globe<\/p>\n<p>Miami Mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FrancisSuarez?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FrancisSuarez<\/a> is set to invest government cash reserves into Bitcoin, while also accepting Bitcoin for taxes and other payments<\/p>\n<p>The Bitcoin wave is coming<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/liZqKgESie\">pic.twitter.com\/liZqKgESie<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jeff Kirdeikis (@JeffKirdeikis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeffKirdeikis\/status\/1349831878237331456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 14, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MicroStrategy is not selling its Bitcoin anytime soon either, stating it to be one of the biggest and best hedges against all other asset classes on the market.
