Turkish police have detained 62 people across eight provinces in connection to an ongoing investigation into local crypto exchange Thodex going dark, news agency <\/span>Associated Press<\/span><\/i><\/a> reported today.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, several reports stated that Thodex, which had anywhere between $2-10 billion worth of its users\u2019 cryptocurrencies in custody, has abruptly stopped all operations. This caused panic among local traders who lost access to their digital assets.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exchange published an <\/span>official statement<\/span><\/a> later that day, claiming that it had to suspend trading for 4-5 days for maintenance due to some undisclosed investment. However, lawyer O\u011fuz Evren K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7 suggested that this could have very well been a scam. <\/span><\/p>\n

He filed a criminal complaint to the prosecutor's office but warned that \u201cthe legal process can take years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCan we call this a \u2018Turkish Mt. Gox Incident\u2019?\u201d he tweeted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
