Buterin was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sent<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 50% of the coin\u2019s entire supply by the project\u2019s creators back in 2020 as a means of \u2018burning\u2019 the tokens (or taking them out of circulation).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Buterin held on, till today. But he didn't choose to sell<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and line his pockets like a sleazy banker. He donated to India\u2019s coronavirus charity instead\u2014making it one of the biggest COVID donations from an individual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The country faces one of the worst COVID crises on the planet, with over 3 million new virus cases reported per day on average (in the past week).<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a shortage of oxygen tanks, hospital beds, and, apparently, even money. Oxygen tanks, in particular, have turned into somewhat of a political tug-of-war with members of the ruling party <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesnownews.com\/mirror-now\/in-focus\/article\/caught-on-cam-bjp-neta-hoards-oxygen-while-common-citizens-scramble-for-it-in-ups-barabanki\/751328\">even allegedly hoarding up supplies<\/a> for themselves (and people who vote for them).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crypto types have stepped in to help. Last week, Sandeep Nailwal, the Delhi-based co-founder of layer-2 blockchain firm Polygon, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-creator-vitalik-buterin-donates-640000-towards-indias-coronavirus-fight\/\">launched<\/a> the \u2018Covid relief campaign\u2019 to help the underprivileged in the country using crypto donations. Donors can choose from Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Cosmos, Tezos, Solana, Litecoin, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Buterin had earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-creator-vitalik-buterin-donates-640000-towards-indias-coronavirus-fight\/\">donated over $640,000<\/a> worth of Ethereum (ETH) and Maker (MKR) towards the relief fund to fight the coronavirus situation in India.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is Shiba?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On its <a href=\"https:\/\/shibatoken.com\/\">website<\/a>, SHIB is positioned as a \u201cdecentralized meme token\u201d that locked 50% of the total supply to Uniswap and \u201cthrew away the (private) keys.\u201d The project is launching its own decentralized exchange called \u2018Shibaswap\u2019 after audits are completed and seem to even have an art lineup for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Shiba additionally boasts of taking enough care to ensure the\u00a0<i>team doesn\u2019t dump<\/i> on holders. \u201cThe remaining 50% was burned to Vitalik Buterin and we were the first project following this path, so everyone has to buy on the open market, ensuring a fair and complete distribution where devs don\u2019t own team tokens they can dump on the community,\u201d the site explains.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, SHIB is down 40% as of press time. Buterin did, in addition, dump over $500,000 worth of Akita Inu (AKITA), another petcoin that sent 50% of its supply to the Ethereum creator.
