DNB has therefore incorrectly set the registration requirement as a condition for the registration of Bitonic,\u201d the DNB reportedly said in its reply.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">DNB formally acknowledges complaints Bitonic and revokes wallet-verification requirement<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gEaE1P0mqo\">https:\/\/t.co\/gEaE1P0mqo<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/bitcoin?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#bitcoin<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bitonic (@Bitonic) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Bitonic\/status\/1395393042832662537?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 20, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Why the confusion around Bitcoin?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last November, the DNB <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bitonic.nl\/en\/news\/213\/additional-verification-measures-due-to-registration-application\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">imposed a new set of requirements<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Netherlands-based crypto firms that wanted to become officially registered. For example, the bank\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toezicht.dnb.nl\/en\/2\/50-237925.jsp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sanction Act<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forced companies to constantly monitor their customers\u2019 withdrawals and request screenshots of their crypto wallets to confirm their identity and the fact of ownership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the time, Bitonic and other firms argued that new measures were \u201cineffective and disproportionate\u201d while executive editor of CoinPrices.io Matt Odell called the DNB\u2019s new requirements \u201cthe obvious precursor to proper self custody bans\u201d and urged Bitcoiners to \u201cstack hard while you still can.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dutch Central Bank lashing out. Per the announcement, the court order also suggested that \u201cthe Dutch supervisor should motivate its registration decision better.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis means that we will remove the wallet verification measures as soon as possible. For example, we will no longer ask for all transactions a copy of your wallet screenshot.
