The common, lowest priced ones sell for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.larvalabs.com\/cryptopunks\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$35,000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> currently, while <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rarer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ones can, well, sell for as much as $11.8 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Punk #7523 wears a brownish beanie, wears a grayish mask, has a grayish background, and sports a gold stud on the left ear. It was bought by the Israeli entrepreneur Shalom Meckenzie, who is the largest shareholder of digital sports company DraftKings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where Meckenzie would display the newly-acquired NFT art is unknown. But crypto natives say Decentraland, a blockchain-based virtual world, is the perfect place to virtually display expensive virtual art.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;To those who say, \u201cyeah but you can\u2019t hang \u2018em on your wall\u201d, this is where virtual social worlds like Decentraland come in,\u201d said Dave Carr, a spokesman for the Decentraland Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sotheby\u2019s itself opened a virtual gallery in Decentraland recently\u2014a replica of its <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">actual<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gallery at New Bond Street in London.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A single &#8216;CryptoPunk&#8217; non-fungible token (NFT) sold for over $11.8 million at the legendary American auction house Sotheby\u2019s yesterday, as per a report on Reuters this morning.
