{"id":225225,"date":"2022-03-16T11:00:26","date_gmt":"2022-03-16T11:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=225225"},"modified":"2026-10-24T12:59:23","modified_gmt":"2026-10-24T11:59:23","slug":"mark-zuckerberg-reveals-instagrams-nft-dreams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/mark-zuckerberg-reveals-instagrams-nft-dreams\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Zuckerberg reveals Instagram\u2019s NFT dreams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to the rising popularity of NFT technology, almost every social media site has revealed plans to integrate the feature on its platform, and it is no surprise that the largest amongst them also have the same plans.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>NFTs on Instagram<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mark Zuckerberg, in a recent <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, revealed that Instagram would also be joining the list of firms to integrate the NFT feature into its system.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This doesn\u2019t come as a surprise because Facebook <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/facebook-to-allow-crypto-ads-after-meta-rebrand\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">changed its name to Meta<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in order to expand its products base into the metaverse, a concept dependent on NFT technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The billionaire revealed his intentions of having NFTs mintable via the social media site. He stated that while he can\u2019t give exact details presently, he can confirm that there\u2019ll be the ability to use NFTs on the site and, in the near future, \u201cbe able to mint things within that environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This isn\u2019t the first time a Meta executive would be talking about NFTs. Last December, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri stated that the platform is actively exploring NFTs. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/2745d50b-36e4-4c0a-abe0-e93f035b0628\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financial Times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also reported that Meta was working on NFT features for Facebook and Instagram.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Already, popular social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/reddit-follows-twitters-lead-tests-nft-profile-pic-feature\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">integrated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> NFT features into their site while other top media companies like YouTube, Disney, and others have also made <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/youtube-is-considering-adding-nft-features-for-its-creators\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">substantial progress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in integrating NFTs, metaverse, and Web3 features into their offerings.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Instagram and Facebook adoption will change the game<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While there is no doubt that the NFT space is one of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/report-nft-trades-top-17-billion-in-2021\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fastest-growing niches<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the crypto industry, the integration of NFT features into a Meta-backed social media site would undoubtedly be a major catalyst for further adoption of the burgeoning space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To put this in perspective, Facebook alone, for instance, boasts of over 2.5 billion users, while Instagram has over 1 billion monthly active users.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means that integrating NFT features on any of these platforms would have a seismic impact on the industry as it would make the digital tokens more accessible to almost one-third of the world population who uses Meta products<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The support for the space would also help further the mainstream adoption of crypto generally as more people would have first-hand experience on the workings of the industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The major drawback, however, is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/the-inside-story-of-how-metas-facebook-crypto-hopes-unraveled\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">distrust<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that regulators around the world have for the hegemony that Meta is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regardless of this, when Facebook or Instagram finally integrates NFTs, the recent record-breaking trading volumes of the space would be a child\u2019s play as there would be more people in the market.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Due to the rising popularity of NFT technology, almost every social media site has revealed plans to integrate the feature on its platform, and it is no surprise that the largest amongst them also have the same plans.
