{"id":231879,"date":"2022-04-12T23:00:48","date_gmt":"2022-04-12T22:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=231879"},"modified":"2022-04-12T22:29:52","modified_gmt":"2022-04-12T21:29:52","slug":"coinbase-may-quell-listing-day-pumps-by-providing-information-symmetry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-may-quell-listing-day-pumps-by-providing-information-symmetry\/","title":{"rendered":"Coinbase may quell listing-day pumps by providing &#8216;information symmetry&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leading American crypto exchange Coinbase has revealed its plans to regularly reveal which digital assets are currently \u201cunder consideration\u201d for listing on its platform ahead of time, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.coinbase.com\/increasing-transparency-for-new-asset-listings-on-coinbase-e06f2edb095e\">blog post<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published on April 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cStarting immediately and as part of an effort to increase transparency by providing as much information symmetry as possible, Coinbase will be using this blog post as a pilot to communicate assets under consideration for listing in Q2 2022.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the company did not directly address this issue in its announcement, it is well known in the crypto industry that \u201clistings on Coinbase\u201d often historically coincided with somewhat chaotic \u201cpump and dump\u201d price movements of certain coins. This is because new listings were usually announced on the very same day they went live, prompting sudden spikes in trading activity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, the price of Shiba Inu <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/shiba-inu-coin-shib-pumps-and-sees-2-billion-traded-after-coinbase-listing\/\">surged on the heels of its Coinbase listing<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0on September 18, 2021, as its trading volume swiftly exceeded $2 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another instance, MakerDAO\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/makerdaos-mkr-crypto-rips-40-higher-on-news-of-coveted-coinbase-listing\/\">MKR token jumped by 40% <\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under similar circumstances on May 30, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coinbase\u2019s latest announcement, however, may very well tune down such massive \u2014 and often near-instant \u2014 price hikes since new listings will no longer be a total \u201csurprise\u201d for crypto traders.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>First batch of candidates<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adhering to the new rules, Coinbase has also revealed a list of 50 new coins that are currently \u201cunder consideration\u201d for listings, including 45 Ethereum-based ERC-20 assets and 5 tokens from the Solana network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, Binance USD and Gemini USD stablecoins are among the assets that are considered for listing on Coinbase in Q2.
