I mean, they only have 5 million followers &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rP55MEdDZo\">pic.twitter.com\/rP55MEdDZo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; OKHotshot (@NFTherder) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFTherder\/status\/1534839844005978112?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 9, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The attacker changed El Universal\u2019s Twitter name to goblintown.wtf, but left the username, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ElUniversal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@ElUniversal<\/a>, intact. Additionally, the malicious actor linked a phishing URL to the account, hoping to steal from unwitting goblintown.wtf holders. The URL swaps the N in town with M.<\/p>\n<p>According to @NFTherder, the attacker took control of El Universal\u2019s account &#8211; which has 5.1 million followers &#8211; on June 4. Since then, the hacker has posted fraudulent tweets, promising to airdrop an additional 10,000 Goblins.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/opensea.io\/collection\/goblintownwtf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">goblintown.wtf<\/a> collection has 9,999 NFTs, with the cheapest going for 5 Ethereum (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ETH<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>While the extent of the attack remains unknown, a Twitter user going by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/topshotkief\/status\/1532936674216386561?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1532936674216386561%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.business2community.com%2Fnft-news%2Fnft-scams-and-phishing-attacks-goblin-town-targeted-02501273\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@topshotkief.eth<\/a> claims to have lost 10 NFTs to the scam. Specifically, the user alleges that the attacker stole two Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) pieces and eight Cool Cats.<\/p>\n<p>@NFTherder further <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nftherder\/status\/1534845640521523200?s=21&t=Q_t4dP8V1pwsOjk36fa7Bw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Of course the Goblintowm scam does ApprovalForAll to steal the assets of those that approve. It also seems the wallet responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ElUniversal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@ElUniversal<\/a> twitter account hack previously pulled off an Azuki Beanz scam.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After in-depth analysis, the analyst found that the address behind the goblintowm scam and the Azuki Beanz attack is the same.<\/p>\n<h2>Attackers continue targeting projects making headlines<\/h2>\n<p>This news comes after goblintown.wtf launched on May 22 and quickly rose to the top of NFT charts. Despite being less than a month old, the project has recorded a trading volume exceeding $70 million, according to data from <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslam.io\/goblintown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cryptoslam<\/a>. Goblintown.wtf\u2019s success comes as flagship NFTs collections like CryptoPunks, BAYC, Meebits, and Mutant Ape <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/goblintown-boom-leaves-crypto-community-confused-and-divided\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continue declining<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_242362\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-242362\" style=\"width: 1437px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-242362 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/goblintown.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1437\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/goblintown.png 1437w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/goblintown-300x104.png 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/goblintown-1024x356.png 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/goblintown-768x267.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1437px) 100vw, 1437px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-242362\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Goblintown NFTs on sale in OpenSea<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The goblintown.wtf scam comes as bad actors continue attacking the NFT space. Earlier this month, an attacker <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bored-ape-yacht-club-discord-server-breached-causing-200-eth-32-nfts-in-losses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compromised<\/a> the Discord server of Yuga Labs\u2019 Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) project and stole approximately $355,000 worth of NFTs.<\/p>\n<p>Before this, an <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/at-least-54-apes-were-stolen-in-bayc-instagram-hack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exploit on BAYC\u2019s Instagram account<\/a> resulted in the theft of at least 54 NFTs. This hack came a few days ahead of Yuga Labs\u2019 overhyped <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/yuga-labs-expects-to-triple-its-annual-revenue-through-their-new-game-based-metaverse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">metaverse launch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In May, renowned digital artist Mike Winkelmann &#8211; professionally known as Beeple &#8211; had his Twitter account <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hacker-steals-438k-in-crypto-nfts-after-compromising-beeples-twitter-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hacked<\/a>.
