About 87% of Polygon validator teams voted for approval. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hard fork proposal aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/polygon-plans-jan-17-hard-fork-to-reduce-gas-spikes-chain-reorganizations\/\">reduce gas spikes<\/a> by reducing the BaseFeeChangeDenominator to 16 from 8, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/polygon.technology\/blog\/hardfork-incoming-upgrading-polygon-pos-chain-to-boost-performance\">January 12 statement<\/a>.\u00a0 Although gas fees will continue to increase during peak demand, they will be aligned with Ethereum gas dynamics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the second proposal reduces the time it takes to finalize a data block &#8211; thereby preventing frequent chain reorganizations. Frequent reorgs happen when a validator node receives information that creates a temporary version of the blockchain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last year, Polygon experienced significant growth and adoption due to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/looking-back-on-the-year-with-polygon-increase-in-transactions-new-collaborations-and-more\/\">multiple collaborations<\/a> and a record number of transactions.
