Additionally, trading access is via API and does not offer a front-end or trading graphical user interface.<\/p>\n<p>WSJ reported that it relies on retail brokerages to route investors' transaction orders for cryptocurrencies to its marketplace.<\/p>\n<p>EDX Chief Executive Jamil Nazarali reportedly said FTX's failure had heightened demand for crypto exchanges that do not possess the inherent conflict of interest associated with storing customer funds.<\/p>\n<h2>EDX is not registered with the SEC, lists only four crypto assets<\/h2>\n<p>According to its website, EDX supports spot trading activities for only four cryptocurrencies\u2014 Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and Ethereum\u2014and is not registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).<\/p>\n<p>While none of EDX's supported digital assets have been classified as securities by SEC, the new exchange could still run afoul of the regulatory authority with its lack of registration.<\/p>\n<p>Under Chair Gary Gensler, the Commission has repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-chair-gensler-reiterates-that-most-crypto-are-securities-before-us-banking-committee\/\">advised<\/a> crypto firms to &#8220;come in and register.&#8221; The regulator has also <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/market-reports\/how-sec-legal-battles-with-binance-coinbase-could-reshape-crypto\/\">filed several enforcement<\/a> charges against crypto firms for federal securities law violations\u00a0and highlighted the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-chair-gensler-highlights-crypto-firms-non-compliance-in-house-committee-testimony\/\">noncompliance<\/a>\u00a0of crypto companies.<\/p>\n<p>Gensler has <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/defiant-gensler-rejects-regulatory-clarity-arguments-in-speech-on-crypto-regulation\/\">maintained<\/a> that existing securities laws adequately govern the digital assets space.<\/p>\n<h2>Wall Street firms remain interested in crypto<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, the group of financial industry giants backing the exchange shows that Wall Street firms still have a massive appetite for the emerging industry despite the U.S. SEC's approach.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, BlackRock, one of the world's largest asset managers, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/blackrock-files-for-spot-bitcoin-etf-coinbase-to-serve-as-custodian-for-btc-holdings\/\">applied<\/a>\u00a0to create a spot Bitcoin ETF. Unconfirmed rumors later <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/fidelity-rumored-to-make-seismic-crypto-move-soon\/\">emerged<\/a> that Fidelity was considering a buyout of Grayscale or an application for a Bitcoin spot ETF.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EDX Markets, a non-custodial cryptocurrency exchange backed by Citadel Securities, Fidelity Investments, and Charles Schwab, is live as of today, June 20.
