{"id":335946,"date":"2023-06-21T00:33:21","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T23:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=335946"},"modified":"2023-06-30T22:33:33","modified_gmt":"2023-06-30T21:33:33","slug":"wisdomtree-submits-new-filing-for-bitcoin-etf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wisdomtree-submits-new-filing-for-bitcoin-etf\/","title":{"rendered":"WisdomTree submits new filing for spot Bitcoin ETF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WisdomTree has submitted a filing through which it intends to gain approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a spot <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> exchange-traded fund (ETF).<\/p>\n<p>WisdomTree describes its proposed investment vehicle, named WisdomTree Bitcoin Trust, as an ETF that would be listed on the Cboe BZX exchange under the ticker label BTCW, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/ix?doc=\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1850391\/000121465923008647\/p620230s1a2.htm\">June 20<\/a> filing.<\/p>\n<p>WisdomTree's ETF \u2014 or any other Bitcoin spot ETF \u2014 would allow institutional investors to gain exposure to the value of Bitcoin without investing in the cryptocurrency directly.<\/p>\n<h2>Prior application<\/h2>\n<p>WisdomTree submitted a very similar ETF application <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1850391\/000119312521077493\/d122075ds1.htm\">in 2021<\/a>. CboeBXZ later filed a proposed rule change in January 2022 in support of WisdomTree.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC rejected that rule change in <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-rejects-wisdomtrees-spot-bitcoin-etf\/\">October 2022<\/a>, as it took issue with insufficient surveillance-sharing agreements and protections against market manipulation.<\/p>\n<h2>Filing follows BlackRock<\/h2>\n<p>WisdomTree's latest filing comes just days after asset management giant <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/blackrock\/\">BlackRock<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/blackrock-files-for-spot-bitcoin-etf-coinbase-to-serve-as-custodian-for-btc-holdings\/\">submitted its ETF application<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Though BlackRock's application is not yet approved, some are optimistic about the company's ability to provide a satisfactory surveillance-sharing agreement and the company's past record of ETF approvals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitwise-refiles-for-bitcoin-spot-etf-following-blackrock\/\">Bitwise<\/a> also applied for a Bitcoin spot ETF after BlackRock.
