It added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This decision was not made lightly and BitGo remains committed to our mission to deliver trust in digital assets.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>BitGo has yet to respond to <em>CryptoSlate's<\/em> request for comment as of press time.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the month, BitGo <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitgo-to-acquire-100-equity-in-prime-trust-parent-following-latters-bankruptcy-rumors\/\">signed<\/a> a term sheet to acquire 100% equity in Prime Core Technologies, the parent company of Prime Trust.<\/p>\n<h2>Prime Trust struggles<\/h2>\n<p>A subsidiary of Prime Trust, Banq, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/prime-trust-subsidiary-banq-declares-bankruptcy\/\">filed for bankruptcy<\/a> on June 14 and listed assets worth $17.72 million, with its liabilities around $5.4 million.<\/p>\n<p>Around the same period, stablecoin TrueUSD (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/true-usd\/\">TUSD<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/tusd-regains-1-parity-after-three-day-depeg\/\">paused<\/a> minting on Prime Trust until further notice. At the time, there were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ODELL\/status\/1666856343259561984\">speculations<\/a> that Prime Trust was insolvent.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the failed acquisition, Bitcoin Magazine CEO David Bailey <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidFBailey\/status\/1671876348007022595?s=20\">said<\/a> any exchange that used Prime Trust's service and transferred funds off its platform in the last three months could be subject to a clawback.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cryptocurrency custodial company BitGo said it &#8220;has made the hard decision to terminate its acquisition&#8221; of rival firm custody Prime Trust, according to a June 22 tweet.
