At the same time, the National Commission of Digital Assets (Comisi\u00f3n Nacional de Activos Digitales) approved it as the first non-provisional Digital Assets Services Provider license (DASP).<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Acosta, Binance general manager for Colombia, Central America, and the Caribbean, said the license allows the exchange to expand its products and services in the crypto-friendly country, adding that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It is also a great opportunity to collaborate closely with government authorities to support the adoption of crypto assets in the country, foster financial inclusion, innovation and ensure customer protection.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>El Salvador's positive posture toward crypto<\/h2>\n<p>El Salvador maintains a friendly posture towards the crypto industry, with the Central American country adopting Bitcoin as a legal tender in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the Latin American country has acquired over 2300 <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">BTC<\/a>, valued at more than $70 million, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/buybitcoinworldwide.com\/treasuries\/el-salvador\/\">data<\/a> from Buy Bitcoin Worldwide. The government has also <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/el-salvador-approves-bitcoin-bond-by-passing-bill\/\">introduced<\/a> several pro-crypto measures, including a bill allowing the country to sell bonds backed by Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these moves,<em> CryptoSlate<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/el-salvadors-bitcoin-experiment-sees-slow-adoption-but-crime-reduction\/\">reported<\/a> that BTC adoption remains low as citizens question the cryptocurrency's benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the year, Bitfinex <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bitfinex.com\/media-releases\/bitfinex-securities-el-salvador-granted-el-salvadors-first-ever-digital-assets-license\/\">said<\/a> it became the first fully regulated digital assets exchange to receive a DASP license in El Salvador.<\/p>\n<h2>Binance now licensed in 18 countries<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, despite Binance's recent regulatory struggles across multiple jurisdictions, its license in El Salvador makes it among the most widely-licensed crypto platform, with approvals and registrations in 18 countries, including <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-secures-first-operational-license-in-dubai-amid-regulatory-hurdles-in-europe\/\">Dubai, <\/a>France, Italy, Spain, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-reenters-japanese-market-with-new-platform-debuts-bnb-trading\/\">Japan<\/a>, Sweden, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Binance exited several European countries, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binances-uk-subsidiary-withdraws-fca-registration-as-european-exodus-continues\/\">United Kingdom<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-withdraws-from-netherlands-following-vasp-license-snub\/\">Netherlands<\/a>, Cyprus, and others, due to its failure to get appropriate regulatory approval to continue its operation.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the exchange faces regulatory challenges in the U.S., where the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other regulatory agencies have filed charges against its lack of compliance with local regulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cryptocurrency exchange Binance is the first licensed crypto platform in El Salvador after receiving two licenses from the\u00a0Central American country, according to an Aug. 8 statement.
