This could be an opportunity for the market.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier in the year, Hong Kong authorities signaled their <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hong-kong-financial-regulators-are-prepared-for-spot-crypto-etf-applications\/\">readiness<\/a> to accept applications for spot crypto ETFs, with <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-etfs-expected-to-launch-in-hong-kong-by-mid-2024\/\">plans to roll<\/a> out these financial products by mid-year. Since then, multiple entities, including Harvest Hong Kong, have filed <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/harvest-hong-kong-leads-the-charge-with-hong-kong-spot-bitcoin-etf-application-report\/\">applications<\/a> to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF.<\/p>\n<h2>In-kind vs. Cash creations<\/h2>\n<p>Hong Kong's potential adoption of the in-kind model approach starkly contrasts the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/approaching-the-launch-of-spot-bitcoin-etfs-strategies-for-redemption-and-market-impact\/\">cash-creation model<\/a> favored by US authorities for its spot Bitcoin ETFs.<\/p>\n<p>With in-kind redemptions, ETF issuers can exchange the fund's underlying assets, such as Bitcoin, with market makers instead of transacting in cash during share creation and redemption. This mechanism enables the ETF to issue creation units without immediately selling the securities for cash.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the cash redemptions <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-rumored-to-be-instructing-spot-bitcoin-etf-applicants-to-include-cash-creates\/\">favored by the US SEC<\/a> require fund managers to sell Bitcoin to provide cash to redeeming shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/blackrock\/\">BlackRock<\/a>, one of the Bitcoin ETF issuers, had <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/blackrock-warned-sec-lack-of-in-kind-orders-for-bitcoin-etf-shares-could-hurt-investors\/\">warned<\/a> that this method poses the challenge of maintaining share prices aligned with Bitcoin's actual value.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Analysts believe Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could see a significant upswing following their launch in Hong Kong due to the adoption of in-kind creation models.
