{"id":433937,"date":"2024-07-18T14:00:51","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T13:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=433937"},"modified":"2024-07-19T14:19:48","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T13:19:48","slug":"okx-chooses-malta-as-mica-hub-to-serve-450-million-eu-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/okx-chooses-malta-as-mica-hub-to-serve-450-million-eu-residents\/","title":{"rendered":"OKX chooses Malta as MiCA hub to serve 450 million EU residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crypto exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/okx\/\">OKX<\/a> selected Malta as its Market in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) hub to serve 450 million EU residents, according to a July 18 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.okx.com\/learn\/our-hub-for-europe\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The exchange explained that this strategic move will allow it to offer services in compliance with local regulations while ensuring easy deposit and withdrawal connectivity to local bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Under the MiCA framework, OKX plans to offer spot trading, including EUR and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/usd-coin\/\">USDC<\/a> pairs, and comprehensive crypto services allowing its users to buy, sell, convert, and stake popular digital assets.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Malta?<\/h2>\n<p>OKX explained that it chose Malta as its MiCA hub for various reasons, including its high regulatory standards.<\/p>\n<p>According to the firm, the country is well-known for its comprehensive regulatory framework for blockchain technology. This makes it an ideal base for expanding its products into the European market, OKX said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, OKX stated that another significant factor influencing its choice was the robust infrastructure and local team it has developed in the country since 2018. It added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Our local entity, Okcoin Europe Ltd, has been licensed as a Class 4 Virtual Financial Assets (VFA) Service Provider by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) since 2021. This establishes a strong regulatory foundation for us to offer secure and compliant services across the EU.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>MiCA effect<\/h2>\n<p>The MiCA regulation is already significantly <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/european-stablecoin-market-declines-under-newly-imposed-mica-rules\/\">affecting crypto operations in Europe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MiCA is a <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/heres-the-impact-of-mica-regulations-on-the-european-crypto-market\/\">regulatory framework<\/a> created by the European Union to standardize crypto regulations across member states. The European Parliament approved MiCA last year, and the rules are being implemented in phases.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of MiCA, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/circle-becomes-first-stablecoin-issuer-to-secure-regulatory-approval-under-mica\/\">targeting stablecoins<\/a>, took effect on June 30.
