Singapore time.<\/p>\n<p>However, blockchain security firm Cyvers estimates the breach caused over $52 million in losses, with most assets already swapped. The affected chains include <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a>, Binance Smart Chain, Base, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/optimism\/\">Optimism<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/polygon\/\">Polygon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/arbitrum\/\">Arbitrum<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/avalanche\/\">Avalanche<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hakan Unal, Senior Security Operations Lead at Cyvers, told <em>CryptoSlate<\/em> that the attacker's rapid asset-swapping moves show similarities to the techniques of North Korea-backed malicious actors. Unal stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This hacker\u2019s behavior\u2014using multiple wallets to swap altcoins into ETH and BNB before consolidating\u2014is consistent with the tactics we\u2019ve seen in past Lazarus operations.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Temporary service suspension<\/h2>\n<p>Following the breach, Lin announced that BingX temporarily halted withdrawals to conduct an &#8220;emergency inspection&#8221; and strengthen its wallet security. She reassured users that withdrawals would resume within 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>She <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Vivien_BingX\/status\/1836940851873992845\">stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;To ensure security, withdrawals have been temporarily suspended while we conduct an emergency inspection and strengthen wallet services. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Withdrawals will be restored within 24 hours at the latest.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lin also highlighted the exchange's layered management system, which keeps most assets in cold wallets, leaving only a small portion in hot wallets for withdrawals.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Vivien_BingX\/status\/1836960372303220905\">statement<\/a>, Lin assured users that BingX would &#8220;fully compensate&#8221; for any losses from its capital while emphasizing that user assets remained secure.<\/p>\n<h2>Escalating CEXs hacks<\/h2>\n<p>This incident highlights the growing trend of hackers targeting centralized exchanges (CEXs). Earlier this year, blockchain security firm Chainalysis reported a <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/crypto-scammers-ditch-ponzi-schemes-for-emotionally-manipulative-scams-says-chainalysis\/\">resurgence in attacks on CEXs<\/a>, shifting attention away from DeFi platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of recent attacks include the $305 million hack on <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/japanese-dmm-exchange-suspends-withdrawals-after-305-million-bitcoin-theft\/\">Japan's DMM Bitcoin<\/a> platform and the $235 million breach of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/indian-exchange-wazirx-hit-by-235-million-hack-north-korea-link-suspected\/\">India's WazirX exchange<\/a> in July. <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/indodax-hit-by-20-5m-exploit-north-korea-link-suspected\/\">Indonesia's Indodax exchange<\/a> also saw around $20 million in losses following a recent attack.<\/p>\n<p>Security experts have linked the hacks to North Korean actors in all cases.
