We\u2019re excited to accelerate the move onchain with an interoperable L2 that will make it even more seamless for crypto users to access DeFi. Ink the future.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The network plans to launch its testnet for developers later this year, with a full rollout for retail and institutional users anticipated in the first quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Optimism Superchain?<\/h2>\n<p>Kraken stated that its choice of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/optimism-invites-layer-3-networks-to-join-its-superchain-promising-advanced-features\/\">Optimism Superchain<\/a> would allow it to benefit from Ethereum's robust security. This would also position Ink as part of the Superchain \u2014 a unified network of blockchains that shares security, governance, and values designed to enhance Ethereum scalability.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the exchange decision aligns with the growing trend among major crypto firms, including <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/uniswap\/\">Uniswap<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/worldcoin-rebrands-as-world-targets-1-billion-users-with-new-blockchain-and-biometric-tech\/\">World<\/a>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/worldcoin-unveils-world-chain-a-layer-2-network-built-for-humans\/\">leverage this technology<\/a> for their layer-2 networks.<\/p>\n<p>Optimism Unlimited Chief Growth Officer Ryan Wyatt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20241024404091\/en\/Introducing-Ink-The-Layer-2-Opening-Exciting-DeFi-Opportunities-to-Everyone\">commented<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Optimism's technology powers the Superchain, and nearly 50% of all Ethereum L2 transactions. As part of this Superchain ecosystem, Ink will contribute to Optimism governance and drive revenue back to the Optimism Collective as we work together to scale Ethereum.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite this significant adoption of Optimism technology, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/arbitrum\/\">Arbitrum<\/a> remains the dominant layer-2 network, according to DeFillama data.<\/p>\n<h2>Kraken's expanding product portfolio<\/h2>\n<p>The launch of Ink complements Kraken's expanding range of products aimed at solidifying its industry position.<\/p>\n<p>This month, the exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/kraken-launches-kbtc-as-competition-heats-up-in-wrapped-bitcoin-market\/\">introduced kBTC<\/a>, a new wrapped <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> product designed to enhance the top crypto availability in DeFi activities.
