President Donald Trump<\/a> said in a Jan. 23 speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the US will become the world capital of crypto and AI.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump said his administration would reduce costs across the board for “virtually all goods and services,” which would also make the US a manufacturing superpower \u2014 directly boosting both industries.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the first time Trump has addressed the crypto industry since taking office, aside from briefly mentioning his memecoin, t<\/span>he Official Trump (TRUMP<\/a>) token. <\/span>The launch prompted the filing of spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) indexed to memecoins, including one tied to the TRUMP token.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advancements without mentions<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Crypto industry players in the US <\/span>hoped<\/a><\/strong> that Trump would sign executive orders on day one addressing the sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, crypto <\/span>was totally omitted<\/a><\/strong> from the President's inaugural speech and the letter outlining the White House's regulatory priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, on his first day in office, Trump made pro-crypto nominations. First, he <\/span>appointed<\/a><\/strong> Caroline Pham as acting chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).<\/span><\/p>\n

Pham advocates for clear rules for the crypto industry in the US and suggested creating a regulatory sandbox for tokenization companies in 2023. She argues that this effort would boost market liquidity, security, and competitiveness.<\/span><\/p>\n

The President also <\/span>nominated<\/a><\/strong> pro-crypto Commissioner Mark Uyeda<\/a> as acting chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) until Paul Atkins<\/a>, the permanent chair, takes office in June 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following his nomination, Uyeda created the regulator's <\/span>first crypto task force<\/a><\/strong> to establish clear rules and avoid regulation through enforcement. The group will be led by Hester Peirce<\/a>, another pro-crypto Commissioner known as \u201cCrypto Mom.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
