{"id":467721,"date":"2025-02-28T19:19:36","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T19:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=467721"},"modified":"2025-02-28T19:20:09","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T19:20:09","slug":"blackrock-adds-bitcoin-exposure-to-model-portfolio-via-ibit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/blackrock-adds-bitcoin-exposure-to-model-portfolio-via-ibit\/","title":{"rendered":"BlackRock adds Bitcoin exposure to model portfolio via IBIT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/blackrock\/\">BlackRock<\/a> incorporated Bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">BTC<\/a>) into its $150 billion model-portfolio offerings through its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/products\/ishares-bitcoin-trust\/\">IBIT<\/a>) exchange-traded fund (ETF), Bloomberg News reported on Feb. 28.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The asset manager has assigned 1% to 2% of its target allocation portfolios to<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> IBIT. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of Dec. 17, the fund<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/blackrocks-ibit-becomes-decades-top-etf-for-inflows-surpassing-all-rivals\/\">registered over $36 billion in net flows<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, amassing more inflows than any ETF launched since 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the report, Bitcoin's inherent volatility prompted BlackRock, in a December report from the BlackRock Investment Institute, to define a 1% to 2% allocation as a &#8220;reasonable range.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The document noted that exceeding a 2% allocation could disproportionately increase the cryptocurrency's impact on overall portfolio risk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael Gates, lead portfolio manager for BlackRock's Target Allocation ETF model portfolio suite, stated:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;We believe Bitcoin has long-term investment merit and can potentially provide unique and additive sources of diversification to portfolios.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, Eve Cout, head of portfolio design and solutions for US Wealth at BlackRock, noted that investors want to allocate more to alternatives. Still, they need guidance on the position's size, scale, and rebalance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Stance shift amid market turmoil<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision comes amid IBIT registering $930 million in outflows in the past four days. On Feb. 26, BlackRock\u2019s Bitcoin ETF experienced its largest daily outflow, with $418 million in capital leaving the fund.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the recent woes, IBIT currently holds over $48 billion in assets and displays nearly $40 billion in net flows per data from<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bold.report\/bitcoin\/holdings\/\">Bold Report<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/farside.co.uk\/btc\/\">Farside Investors<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, the firm<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/blackrock-doubles-down-on-ibit-exposure-through-its-global-allocation-fund\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">doubled<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its Bitcoin exposure in its Global Allocation Fund last year, reporting 430,770 shares of IBIT in its third-quarter 13F Form.
