GameStop has updated its corporate investment policy to include Bitcoin (BTC<\/a>) as a treasury reserve asset, the company<\/span> announced<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on March 25.<\/span><\/p>\n

The decision was unanimously approved by the firm's board of directors.<\/span><\/p>\n

GameStop did not disclose the size or timing of any initial allocation but confirmed that Bitcoin will now be considered a component of its treasury strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The firm\u2019s shares jumped over 7% in the after-market following the announcement. Meanwhile, Bitcoin briefly breached $88,500 after GameStop released the news.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, GameStop shared on its fourth quarter earnings report that its digital asset strategy also<\/span> includes exposure to stablecoins<\/a><\/strong>. The report also shared that the firm holds over $4.5 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The move comes amid growing interest among publicly traded companies in holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets as a long-term store of value, with nearly 665,000 BTC in their vaults.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flirting with Bitcoin<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The decision follows a series of developments that hinted at the company\u2019s potential pivot toward digital assets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In early February, GameStop Chairman and CEO Ryan Cohen posted a photo with Strategy\u2019s<\/a> Michael Saylor<\/a> at President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> Mar-a-Lago estate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shortly after Cohen\u2019s public appearance with Saylor, Strive Asset Management CEO Matt Cole sent an open letter to GameStop urging the company to allocate some of its cash reserves to Bitcoin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cole argued that GameStop could differentiate itself in the gaming and retail sectors by adopting a Bitcoin-forward treasury strategy, calling it \u201can incredible opportunity to transform its financial future.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cohen publicly acknowledged the letter, saying \u201cLetter received\u201d on an<\/span> X post<\/a><\/strong>.
