{"id":474541,"date":"2025-04-14T17:43:32","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T16:43:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=474541"},"modified":"2025-04-14T17:43:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T16:43:32","slug":"kraken-expands-beyond-crypto-launches-stock-trading-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/kraken-expands-beyond-crypto-launches-stock-trading-in-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Kraken expands beyond crypto, launches stock trading in the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/kraken\/\">Kraken<\/a> is expanding into traditional finance by launching access to over 11,000 US-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), according to an April 14 <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kraken.com\/product\/equities\/stock-and-etf-trading\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The crypto trading firm revealed that its users can now trade equities commission-free through Kraken Securities LLC, a newly launched FINRA-regulated arm of the exchange.<\/p>\n<p>The service is available to residents in ten US jurisdictions, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Idaho, Iowa, Rhode Island, Kentucky, Alabama, and Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Kraken aims to expand access to more states in the coming months, with global markets such as the UK, Europe, and Australia also on the roadmap.<\/p>\n<h2>Bridging crypto and traditional finance<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"1206\">The expansion aligns with Kraken's broader vision of merging traditional and digital finance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"1206\">Kraken aims to remove long-standing barriers to investing by integrating access to stocks, ETFs, crypto, stablecoins, and cash on a single platform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"1206\">According to the firm, this would make it easier for users to rotate between asset classes without leaving the ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1501\">Kraken's co-CEO, Arjun Sethi, pointed out that the move into equities is a natural evolution that sets the foundation for future innovation. He emphasized that blockchain infrastructure will make the next trading phase borderless, continuous, and driven.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1501\">He added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1501\">&#8220;Crypto isn\u2019t just evolving, it\u2019s becoming the backbone for trading across asset classes, such as equities, commodities and currencies. As demand for 24\/7 global access grows, clients want a seamless, all-in-one trading experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1762\">The new development follows Kraken's $1.5 billion acquisition of retail futures trading platform NinjaTrader and the exchange's reported <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/kraken-reportedly-exploring-1-billion-debt-raise-ahead-of-potential-ipo\/\">plans to raise $1 billion<\/a> in debt as it prepares for a potential initial public offering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1762\">These deals highlight the exchange's growing ambition to be a key player in the convergence of traditional finance and crypto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1764\" data-end=\"2029\">Kraken's entry into stock trading also puts it in direct competition with other platforms like Crypto.com, which <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/crypto-com-launches-zero-commission-stock-and-etf-trading-in-us-expansion\/\">introduced<\/a> commission-free trading for stocks and ETFs in the US earlier this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kraken is expanding into traditional finance by launching access to over 11,000 US-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), according to an April 14 statement.
