{"id":479432,"date":"2025-05-12T10:20:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T09:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=479432"},"modified":"2025-10-21T17:24:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T16:24:03","slug":"hyperliquid-hits-6b-in-open-interest-as-bitcoin-tests-105k-near-price-discovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hyperliquid-hits-6b-in-open-interest-as-bitcoin-tests-105k-near-price-discovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyperliquid hits $6B in open interest as Bitcoin tests $105k near price discovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Decentralized trading platform <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/hyperliquid\/\">Hyperliquid<\/a> has hit a new high, crossing $6 billion in open interest, according to figures from CoinGlass.<\/p>\n<p>The surge came just a day after Hyperliquid <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HyperliquidX\/status\/1921486722736513319\">reported<\/a> that open interest volume on its platform reached an all-time high of $5.6 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to CoinGlass <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinglass.com\/exchanges\/Hyperliquid\">data<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> holds the dominant position on Hyperliquid with more than $2 billion in open interest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> follows with over $1 billion in open interest, while other digital assets like <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/solana\/\">Solana<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/xrp\/\">XRP<\/a>, PEPE, Fartcoin, and Hyperliquid\u2019s native HYPE token also maintain strong trading activity on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Open interest tracks the total value of unsettled futures contracts and is often seen as a signal of liquidity and market sentiment. But the rise in open interest also brings added volatility. While deeper liquidity can support healthier markets, leveraged positions increase the risk of sharp price swings.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Hyperliquid's open interest is rising<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-whale-stirs-market-with-450m-short-position-on-hyperliquid\/\">rising numbers on Hyperliquid<\/a> suggest stronger market participation and increased traction among crypto traders seeking alternative trading platforms to centralized exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>It shows that crypto traders increasingly favor decentralized platforms for speed, transparency, and non-custodial execution. Hyperliquid offers these qualities, which have helped cement its position in the market.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, Hyperliquid accounts for over 60% of the on-chain perpetual futures market. In April alone, the platform processed $187 billion in trades.<\/p>\n<p>According to DeFillama <a href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/perps\/hyperliquid\">data<\/a>, the platform is sustaining momentum into May as it has already cleared more than $50 billion in trading volume this month.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hyperliquid's rising open interest volume surge aligns with <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/china-confirms-us-tariff-suspension-bitcoin-nears-all-time-high-with-huge-green-candle-to-105k\/\">Bitcoin\u2019s price jump<\/a> to over $105,000, its highest level in three months. The price move has fueled speculation that Bitcoin could soon retest its January all-time high of $109,000.<\/p>\n<h2>Challenges persist<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2535\" data-end=\"2762\">Despite its growth, Hyperliquid has faced <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hyperliquid-hit-by-4-million-loss-after-whales-high-risk-trading-incident\/\">increased community scrutiny<\/a> over some of its activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2535\" data-end=\"2762\">In December, its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/north-korean-hack-fears-sent-hyperliquids-hype-token-on-a-rollercoaster\/\">HYPE token saw a steep drop<\/a> after a wallet linked to a North Korean group reportedly lost $500,000 trading on the platform.
