They offer high speed and low spreads on popular stablecoin pairs, especially large-cap coins like Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, decentralized exchanges (DEXs) allow users to maintain custody through automated market makers (AMMs) but introduce price slippage and impermanent loss, especially during volatile periods or large trades.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these challenges, some digital assets, particularly BTC, ETH, and USDT, show comparable or even narrower bid-ask spreads than mid-cap equities like Broadcom.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, CEXs continue to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cex-dominance-persists-despite-rapid-growth-in-dex-volumes\/\">dominate volume<\/a> in the market and provide higher liquidity compared to their decentralized counterparts, which provide deeper access.<\/p>\n<p>The report also noted that the launch of Bitcoin and Ether ETFs in the US has increased trading activity and deepened liquidity on crypto exchanges, though ETF trading volumes remain smaller than their underlying assets.<\/p>\n<h2>Infrastructure constraints<\/h2>\n<p>S&P also highlighted how political instability and exchange hacks can significantly impact localized liquidity, a prevalent issue in the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/south-koreas-crypto-volumes-spike-as-woori-eyes-over-300-million-upbit-exit\/\">political crisis in South Korea<\/a> triggered a 30% drop in BTC-KRW pricing on <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/upbit\/\">Upbit<\/a> in December 2024, while a <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/fbi-confirms-north-korea-backed-lazarus-hackers-stole-1-5-billion-from-bybit\/\">February breach<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bybit\/\">Bybit<\/a> led to a sustained decline in <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bybit-ceo-says-1-billion-of-stolen-assets-still-trackable-despite-hackers-mixing-funds-with-thorchain\/\">ETH trading volume<\/a>.
