{"id":487640,"date":"2025-07-01T19:15:49","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T18:15:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=487640"},"modified":"2025-07-01T18:50:36","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T17:50:36","slug":"sec-approves-grayscale-index-etf-conversion-clears-solana-xrp-cardano-for-spot-trading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-approves-grayscale-index-etf-conversion-clears-solana-xrp-cardano-for-spot-trading\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC approves Grayscale Index ETF conversion, clears Solana, XRP, Cardano for spot trading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the proposal to convert the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/grayscale-investments\/\">Grayscale<\/a> Digital Large Cap Fund into an exchange-traded fund (ETF), completing the conversion of the crypto index product into an ETF structure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a July 1 filing, the ETF will issue trust units that track a basket of the five largest cryptocurrencies by market cap: Bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">BTC<\/a>), Ethereum (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/xrp\/\">XRP<\/a>, Solana (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/solana\/\">SOL<\/a>), and Cardano (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/cardano\/\">ADA<\/a>).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As detailed in the order, the portfolio weights at approval were approximately 80% Bitcoin, 11% Ethereum, 4.8% XRP, 2.8% Solana, and 0.8% Cardano.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grayscale reports non-GAAP<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grayscale.com\/funds\/grayscale-digital-large-cap-fund\">assets under management of roughly $775 million<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the product as of June 30.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fund, which first launched in 2018 and has been trading on OTC Markets under the ticker GDLC since 2019, will now join NYSE Arca\u2019s ETF roster. Once operational details are finalized, it will transition to continuous trading and on-exchange creation and redemption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The accelerated order amends NYSE Arca Rule 8.500-E to permit Trust Units issued by limited-liability companies and to recognize index-based portfolios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The approval comes amid optimism driven by rumors that the first spot Solana ETF could start trading in the US<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/rex-shares-solana-etf-on-the-brink-of-trading-launch-as-sec-readies-greenlight\/\">as early as this week<\/a> <\/strong>and expectations of a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/landmark-6-billion-influx-boosts-bitcoin-and-ethereum-etfs\/\">wave of approval<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for other crypto ETFs this summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Commission stated that the exchange\u2019s surveillance capabilities and the fund\u2019s asset-quality thresholds meet the requirements of Section 6(b)(5) to deter fraud and manipulation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the move opens the door for other crypto basket funds to be converted into ETFs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitwise\/\">Bitwise<\/a> filed a Form 19b-4 in November to uplist its $1.3 billion Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund (BITW) as an exchange-traded product. Hashdex has also requested that the SEC broaden its Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF to<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hashdex-amends-s-1-filing-for-crypto-index-etf-to-add-7-altcoins-including-sol-and-xrp\/\">include seven additional altcoins<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a step it says will precede a complete conversion of its diversified trust.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/franklin-templeton\/\">Franklin Templeton<\/a> likewise submitted paperwork in February to launch its own crypto index ETF, positioning the firm to shift
