The demonstration follows a recent \u201cminimal sharding protocol\u201d initiative from the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> cofounder that aims to dramatically enhance the transaction throughput and scalability of the Ethereum blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>The number of Ethereum transactions has dramatically increased over the last several years, which has caused transaction fees to rise accordingly. The concept of sharding involves splitting the Ethereum blockchain into potentially myriad smaller sections that are able to process transactions in a parallel manner, thereby speeding up transaction throughput and capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Buterin took to Twitter earlier today to share the latest developments of the Ethereum development community:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sharding is coming.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Aqo9MBiCj0\">https:\/\/t.co\/Aqo9MBiCj0<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FXEQeiKGDr\">pic.twitter.com\/FXEQeiKGDr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VitalikButerin\/status\/991021062811930624?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 30, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>A \u201cMinimal Sharding Protocol\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>The integration of the sharding scaling solution appears to have kicked into high gear over the last month, with Buterin <a href=\"https:\/\/ethresear.ch\/t\/a-minimal-sharding-protocol-that-may-be-worthwhile-as-a-development-target-now\/1650\">announcing<\/a> a \u201cminimal sharding protocol\u201d as a new development target earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The minimal sharding protocol can be interpreted as analogous to a \u201cminimum viable product\u201d in the software development industry. This solution is designed to link the Ethereum main chain with shard chains \u2014 shard chains process a given percentage of transactions in parallel to each other, then link together.<\/p>\n<p>In a basic shard model, linkages can be performed in a simple straight line dependency. This method, according to Buterin, could potentially impede shard collation time. Chain cross-linking, Buterin\u2019s proposed solution, would ensure that shard collations are processed within the time between when they are included into the main chain, and when the next period begins.<\/p>\n<p>Buterin is quick to point out, however, that sharding specifications are still very much a work in progress:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I would not say the spec is finalized at this point, though the &quot;bag of ideas&quot; is IMO pretty well-established.
