{"id":494081,"date":"2025-08-15T14:51:55","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T13:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=494081"},"modified":"2025-08-15T15:05:33","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T14:05:33","slug":"wall-street-giants-amplify-bitcoin-investments-through-etfs-and-equities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wall-street-giants-amplify-bitcoin-investments-through-etfs-and-equities\/","title":{"rendered":"Wall Street titans quietly amass billions in Bitcoin ETFs and crypto stocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Major Wall Street institutions, including Wells Fargo, Cantor Fitzgerald, and Jane Street, have sharply increased their Bitcoin-related holdings over the past months.<\/p>\n<p>These firms' portfolio updates on the stock analytics platform Quiver Quantitative reveal they are investing billions in the top crypto via exchange-traded funds and crypto-focused equities like <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/microstrategy\/\">Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> ETFs allow institutional investors to track BTC's price without the complexities of directly holding the digital assets.<\/p>\n<h2>Well Fargo boosts Bitcoin exposure<\/h2>\n<p>During the second quarter, Wells Fargo significantly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quiverquant.com\/institutions\/WELLS%20FARGO%20&%20COMPANY%7CMN\/\">expanded<\/a> its stake in BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/harvard-discloses-116-7m-exposure-to-bitcoin-via-blackrocks-ibit-etf\/\">largest Bitcoin-focused fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As of June 30, the bank held over $160 million worth of IBIT shares, up sharply from roughly $26 million at the end of the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the financial institution also maintained a modest exposure of $200,000 to Grayscale's GBTC.<\/p>\n<p>Outside these ETFs, the bank increased its Strategy's holdings by approximately $143 million, bringing its total exposure to the Bitcoin-focused software firm to $291 million.<\/p>\n<p>These moves highlight the bank's dual ETF-based and equity-driven crypto investment strategy.<\/p>\n<h2>Cantor Fitzgerald continues crypto pivot<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/cantor-fitzgerald\/\">Cantor Fitzgerald<\/a>, led by the children of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, also ramped up its Bitcoin ETF positions to more than $250 million.<\/p>\n<p>According to its Quiver Quantitative portfolio, the firm purchased approximately $150 million of Bitcoin exposure via <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/products\/fidelity-wise-origin-bitcoin-trust\/\">Fidelity's FBTC<\/a> ETF while reducing its IBIT holdings by $16 million during the second quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the Bitcoin-related ETFs, the firm's crypto-related equities holdings in Strategy's MSTR, Coinbase, Robinhood, Bitcoin miners Riot Platforms, and Terawulf are worth around $2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>These moves align with Cantor Fitzgerald's historical <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cantor-fitzgerald-spac-nears-4b-deal-with-blockstreams-adam-back-to-amass-30000-bitcoin\/\">pro-crypto ventures in Bitcoin investment vehicles<\/a>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/twenty-one-capital\/\">Twenty One Capital<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the bank also has a significant working relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/tether\/\">Tether<\/a>, the world's largest stablecoin issuer.<\/p>\n<h2>IBIT dominates Jane Street portfolio<\/h2>\n<p>According to the portfolio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quiverquant.com\/institutions\/JANE%20STREET%20GROUP,%20LLC\/\">update<\/a>, Jane Street Group, a global proprietary trading firm, now holds $1.46 billion in IBIT shares, marking its largest single portfolio position, surpassing its $1.41 billion investment in Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>The firm also increased its Strategy shares to $64 million while reducing exposure to Fidelity's FBTC by $231 million, leaving a remaining $404 million position.<\/p>\n<p>Other crypto-related holdings of the financial institution include <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a> and IREN, reflecting Jane Street's diversified approach to digital asset exposure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major Wall Street institutions, including Wells Fargo, Cantor Fitzgerald, and Jane Street, have sharply increased their Bitcoin-related holdings over the past months.
