{"id":501472,"date":"2025-10-03T20:55:52","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T19:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=501472"},"modified":"2025-10-04T00:29:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T23:29:40","slug":"stanchart-reaffirms-200k-year-end-projection-for-bitcoin-as-us-gov-shutdown-becomes-tailwind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/stanchart-reaffirms-200k-year-end-projection-for-bitcoin-as-us-gov-shutdown-becomes-tailwind\/","title":{"rendered":"StanChart reaffirms $200k year-end projection for Bitcoin as US gov shutdown becomes tailwind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/standard-chartered\/\">Standard Chartered's<\/a> head of digital assets research, Geoffrey Kendrick, reaffirmed his year-end Bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">BTC<\/a>) price target of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/stanchart-predicts-bitcoin-rally-to-120000-in-q2\/\">$200,000<\/a> on Oct. 2.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kendrick, fresh ETF inflows and the U.S. government shutdown could drive the crypto to further highs in the weeks ahead.<\/p>\n<p>In a note to clients, Kendrick said Bitcoin is poised to break past its all-time high within days and could reach $135,000 in the coming weeks, a little later than his <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/stanchart-predicts-bitcoins-new-cycle-may-defy-past-patterns-with-etf-and-policy-tailwinds\/\">previous forecast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kendrick highlighted that net inflows into Bitcoin ETFs stand at nearly $50 billion, with three months still to go in the year.<\/p>\n<h2>Shutdown is a catalyst<\/h2>\n<p>Kendrick argued that the current shutdown carries more weight than the 2018\u20132019 episode, when Bitcoin showed little reaction.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that this year, the asset has traded closely with &#8220;U.S. government risks,&#8221; reflected in Treasury term premiums, positioning it to benefit as political gridlock deepens.<\/p>\n<p>Prediction market Polymarket indicates a 60% probability the shutdown will last 10 to 29 days, a duration Kendrick said would likely bolster Bitcoin prices throughout the period.<\/p>\n<h2>ETF flows and market conditions<\/h2>\n<p>While gold ETFs have recently outpaced Bitcoin ETF inflows, Kendrick predicted that the trend will soon reverse in favor of the digital asset. Inflows have been <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/4b-btc-in-4-weeks-bitcoin-etfs-buy-more-than-double-the-btc-mined\/\">ramping up over the past week<\/a> and are expected to continue.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kendrick, the demand for Bitcoin ETFs, combined with the crypto's increasing correlation with macroeconomic risk indicators, reinforces its role as a maturing financial asset.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I would expect at least another $20 billion by year-end, a number which would make my $200,000 year-end forecast possible.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Standard Chartered&#8217;s head of digital assets research, Geoffrey Kendrick, reaffirmed his year-end Bitcoin (BTC) price target of $200,000 on Oct. 2.
