This jump has BCH closing in on Ripple's third-place spot on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/\">coin rankings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, the climb has not been without conflict \u2013 Bitcoin.com, owned by Roger Ver, was almost the target of a lawsuit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_52516\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52516\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-52516\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bch-price-chart-05142018-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"Bitcoin Cash\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bch-price-chart-05142018-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bch-price-chart-05142018-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bch-price-chart-05142018-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bch-price-chart-05142018.jpg 1443w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-52516\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bitcoin Cash is one of the strongest performing assets over the past 30 days, up over 80%.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Lawsuit Troubles<\/h2>\n<p>The almost-lawsuit stems from the controversy between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.<\/p>\n<p>In the middle of 2017, some developers were not content with the implementation of the Segregated Witness (SegWit). SegWit was implemented to increase the number of transactions per second the network was capable of processing, but many developers believed that raising the block size limit was the superior solution.<\/p>\n<p>These developers hard forked Bitcoin on August 1st, 2017. They created Bitcoin Cash, which was similar to Bitcoin but has a max block size of 8 MB, to increase transaction speeds. Since then, Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash have been locked in a war for supremacy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_52360\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52360\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52360\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Roger-Ver-760x400-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-52360\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roger Ver, CEO of Bitcoin.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Roger Ver, a major proponent of Bitcoin cash, is the owner of the website Bitcoin.com.<\/p>\n<p>However, his site has been continually hit with criticism for being misleading. Many viewers believe his website is designed to confuse cryptocurrency novices into buying Bitcoin Cash instead of Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Bitcoin.com changed their block explorer page to refer to Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as Bitcoin, and Bitcoin (BTC) as Bitcoin Core. This angered many users, some to the point of action. Believing this change constituted\u00a0fraud, and could cause unwitting users to lose Bitcoin by sending it to Bitcoin Cash wallets, funding for a lawsuit commenced.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51260\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51260\" style=\"width: 742px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51260\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-before.jpg\" alt=\"Before the lawsuit, BCH is referred to as Bitcoin on Bitcoin.com\" width=\"742\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-before.jpg 1050w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-before-300x139.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-before-768x355.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-before-1024x474.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 742px) 100vw, 742px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51260\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Prior to the lawsuit funding, Bitcoin.com labeled Bitcoin Cash (BCH) misleadingly.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Led by Twitter user @<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/moneytrigz\">moneytrigz<\/a>, a website was created and began accepting Bitcoin donations for a lawsuit against Bitcoin.com. Following this, Bitcoin.com soon changed their block explorer page, referring to BCH as Bitcoin Cash, and BTC as Bitcoin Core.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51259\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51259\" style=\"width: 672px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51259\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-after.png\" alt=\"Bitcoin.com refers to BCH as Bitcoin Cash once again.\" width=\"672\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-after.png 672w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bitcoincom-after-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51259\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Under legal pressure, Bitcoin.com began referring to BCH as Bitcoin Cash once again.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Initially decrying the lawsuit as stupid, Litecoin creator <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/charlie-lee-inventor-litecoin\/\">Charlie Lee<\/a> quickly changed his tune, praising the change it effected on Bitcoin.com.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I retract my statement calling the lawsuit stupid. I just found out that Roger has changed the website back to listing bcash as &quot;Bitcoin Cash (BCH)&quot; instead of just Bitcoin. So for that, the lawsuit has already done some good. Many users still considered it a victory though, because Bitcoin.com was pressured to change their website.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We appreciate the 31 people that donated to the initiative<br \/>But $3700 wont be enough to do much, so we decided to cancel the initiative and refund the 31 transactions (total 0.39btc)<br \/>im happy were able to atleast get bitcoincom make 90% changes on its fraude and dis-information <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EixrrqffD5\">pic.twitter.com\/EixrrqffD5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; MoneyTrigz (@moneytrigz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/moneytrigz\/status\/992092547777363968?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Sometime during the lawsuit fundraising, the cryptocurrency price tracking website <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/\">CoinMarketCap<\/a> removed the website link to Bitcoin.com from its Bitcoin page. There was no official announcement,\u00a0 but the website was presumably removed due to the allegations of fraud.<\/p>\n<h2>Bitcoin Cash Hard Fork<\/h2>\n<p>With the threat of a lawsuit quelled, Bitcoin Cash has been performing admirably. One of the reasons for the recent price growth may be Bitcoin Cash's upcoming hard fork on May 15th.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1906\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1906\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1906\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/bitcoin-cash-small-cover-300x137.jpg\" alt=\"Bitcoin Cash\" width=\"300\" height=\"137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/bitcoin-cash-small-cover-300x137.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/bitcoin-cash-small-cover.jpg 482w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1906\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bitcoin Cash is a hard fork of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. The fork occurred on August 1, 2017.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While the BCH fork is a hard fork, it is not like most others where two new currencies are created. In this fork, the value of the old blockchain will be canceled. This will cause the fork to function similarly to a soft fork, which only involves a software upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>The most significant change in this fork is the quadrupling of block sizes from 8 megabytes to 32 megabytes. This change will improve Bitcoin Cash's viability as a currency by further increasing the number of transactions that can be fit on each block.<\/p>\n<p>The fork will also reactivate some pieces of the original bitcoin code that have not been in use for many years. Among these pieces of code is an opcode known as &#8216;OP_GROUP.' This code could be used to create tokens on the BCH network.<\/p>\n<p>Alejandro de la Torre, Business Operations, BTC.com said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe upcoming hard fork with 32MB block size will allow Bitcoin Cash to gain massive user adoption by removing a bottleneck affecting other blockchains that can give users faster transactions at lower costs. The OpCodes will allow developers to create tokens that can represent any virtual or physical asset and leverage the power of smart contracts to automate basic financial processes on top of BCH.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Bitcoin Cash Smart Contracts<\/h2>\n<p>Another important opcode being added is &#8216;OP_RETURN'. This code allows users to store additional data on the blockchain. This code could lay the groundwork for Bitcoin Cash smart contracts.<\/p>\n<p>While these codes could expand the scope of Bitcoin Cash significantly, and grant it functions similar to Ethereum smart contracts and ERC20 tokens, it is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>With the hard fork only days away, Bitcoin Cash is performing well. If the hard-fork goes well, transaction speeds and usability will improve significantly.
