{"id":556588,"date":"2026-08-20T18:00:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T17:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=556588"},"modified":"2026-08-20T13:43:43","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T12:43:43","slug":"sec-faces-aug-20-deadline-to-unlock-123-million-recovery-fund-for-terra-investors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-faces-aug-20-deadline-to-unlock-123-million-recovery-fund-for-terra-investors\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC faces Aug. 20 deadline to unlock $123 million recovery fund for Terra investors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/enforcement-litigation\/distributions-harmed-investors\/distributions-commission-administrative-proceedings-notices-orders-pertaining-disgorgement-fair\">faces<\/a> an Aug. 20 deadline to submit a plan for distributing a $123.1 million fund paid by Jump Crypto subsidiary Tai Mo Shan to investors harmed by <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/terra-collapse-sparked-explosive-growth-in-long-term-bitcoin-supply\/\">Terra's 2022 collapse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal is expected to determine who qualifies for compensation, how losses will be calculated, whether investors must submit claims, and how eventual payments will be made.<\/p>\n<p>An SEC order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/litigation\/admin\/2026\/34-104875.pdf\">issued<\/a> in February gave staff until Aug. 20 to submit the proposed distribution plan after granting additional time to develop the methodology and coordinate with recoveries stemming from separate <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/terraform-labs\/\">Terraform Labs<\/a> litigation.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline does not mean investors are due to receive money Thursday. Tai Mo Shan settled without admitting or denying the findings.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"cs-article-embed\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-charges-jump-crypto-subsidiary-123-million-for-manipulating-terra-luna-ust-peg\/\" class=\"cs-article-embed__link\">\n        <div class=\"cs-article-embed__body\">\n            <span class=\"cs-article-embed__related-reading\">Related Reading<\/span>\n            <h3 class=\"cs-article-embed__title\">SEC charges Jump Crypto subsidiary $123 million for manipulating Terra Luna UST peg<\/h3>\n        <\/div>\n        <span class=\"cs-article-embed__arrow\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n            <i class=\"fa-light fa-arrow-up-right\"><\/i>\n        <\/span>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Meanwhile, determining how to distribute the money has been complicated by a separate recovery process involving Terraform Labs.<\/p>\n<p>When the financial regulator extended the deadline in February, it said its staff needed additional time to develop the distribution methodology and, where appropriate, coordinate with anticipated <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/terraform-labs-launches-claims-portal-for-algorithmic-ust-stablecoin-crash-victims\/\">distributions from the Terraform litigation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Terraform creditors are pursuing recoveries through <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/terraform-labs-filed-for-bankruptcy-to-protect-against-potential-sec-money-judgment\/\">the company's bankruptcy proceedings,<\/a> where a separate claims process governs losses tied to the collapse.<\/p>\n<p>A claim in that process does not automatically establish eligibility for the Tai Mo Shan fund, leaving the SEC to determine how the two recovery tracks interact and how eligible losses should be calculated.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution plan expected Thursday should provide the first detailed framework for resolving those questions and moving the $123.1 million fund closer to investors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The money is collected, but eligibility, loss calculations and payment timing were not public early Thursday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":720,"featured_media":556720,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[77901,77968,60208,11],"tags":[76932,77433,75195,77351,76930],"post_folder":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v21.9 (Yoast SEO v21.9.1) -
