With the value of Bitcoin descending almost 10% in just seven days, many market observers \u2014 such as CNBC Africa\u2019s <i>Crypto Trader <\/i>host Ran Neu-Ner \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/06\/12\/bitcoin-hasnt-hit-bottom-cryptocurrency-trader-says.html\">predict<\/a> further price falls as market sentiment appears to be overwhelmingly bearish.<\/p>\n<p>However, Draper has shared a different perspective, following up on extremely bullish calls made in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/04\/13\/tech-investor-tim-draper-predicts-bitcoin-will-reach-250000-by-2022.html\">April<\/a> this year calling for a 2018 end-of-year Bitcoin price of $25,000, with $250,000 in sight within four years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Oops! My tweet last night was missing a zero. $250k is the number!<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Tim Draper (@TimDraper) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimDraper\/status\/984854925552254977?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 13, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Draper Predicts an End to Fiat<\/h2>\n<p>In an interview with The Street, Draper weighed in on the ongoing regulatory debate, which has seen blockchain influencers such as John McAfee <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/mcafee-vs-the-sec-renegade-security-expert-challenges-sec-to-debate-on-cryptocurrencies\/\">call out the SEC<\/a> directly for taking action that the cryptocurrency community perceives to be outside of the regulatory jurisdiction. \u00a0Regulation, according to Draper, must be \u201creined in\u201d and made clear.<\/p>\n<p>Cryptocurrencies, states Draper, are a major disruptive event, forcing governments to create clear and nuanced regulations that protect market participants without stifling innovation:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCryptocurrencies are the next big technological tectonic shift and governments have to weigh their need to protect investors with their need to be included in this potential economic powerhouse that is crypto. I believe cryptocurrencies will overtake fiat currencies in the next five to seven years.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>SEC Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/jay-clayton\/\">Jay Clayton\u2019s<\/a> recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2018\/06\/06\/sec-chairman-cryptocurrencies-like-bitcoin--not-securities.html\">statement<\/a> that Bitcoin is the \u201conly\u201d cryptocurrency that is not a security \u2014 and that all altcoins and ICOs definitely <i>are <\/i>\u2014 has drawn ire from the cryptocurrency community. Rather than classify cryptocurrencies as securities, Draper would rather see cryptos regulated in a similar manner to currency.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC\u2019s position on the regulatory status of cryptocurrency, states Draper, is determined by the limited frame of reference through which the SEC views them \u2014 to a knee surgeon, posits Draper, everybody looks like they have a knee problem.<\/p>\n<h2>Crypto May Accelerate the Velocity of Money<\/h2>\n<p>According to Draper, the global currency market, worth around $86 trillion, is set to grow to over $140 trillion in the next decade. The venture capitalist predicts that most of the growth that will see the acceleration of capital increase so dramatically will be due to cryptocurrencies:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI estimate that fiat currencies will actually decrease in use, and that crypto will become as much as $100 trillion of that market. I expect Bitcoin to be about 10% of that market, or $10 trillion.
