If you\u2019re not here &#8211; join us! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vGp7fQpKRu\">https:\/\/t.co\/vGp7fQpKRu<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wZUPyPsaiw\">pic.twitter.com\/wZUPyPsaiw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Nathalie McGrath (@NathalieMcGrath) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NathalieMcGrath\/status\/1033076620322463744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>On the same day, CEO Brian Armstrong shared an email with employees about Coinbase\u2019s segmentation in the startup world, reportedly after being posed the question.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong laid out his reasoning in a detailed<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.coinbase.com\/is-coinbase-a-finance-or-tech-company-f474b852272d\"><i><\/i> post<\/a>, stating the company prides itself in product creation, has a dedicated engineering team and features a knowledgeable legal and compliance team.<\/p>\n<p>The aforementioned fixtures, according to Armstrong, make Coinbase a technology company \u201cdriving a ton of innovation and growth in the world today.\u201d However, the CEO concluded by stating the firm fits in the newly-developed \u201ccrypto\u201d category instead of a \u201cfintech\u201d organization.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong further elaborated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re not satisfied with the limitations of either technology or finance industries. We don\u2019t want to move fast and break things\u200a\u2014\u200athat doesn\u2019t work when you\u2019re handling people\u2019s money. We also don\u2019t want to become so conservative that more risk-tolerant organizations outrun us.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Plunging Trading Volumes<\/h2>\n<p>Despite its rise to relevance, 2018\u2019s prolonged bear market has caused Coinbase's trading volumes to plunge substantially.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by research firm Diar, the San Francisco-based exchange has experienced an<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-achieving-14-month-record-stability-is-extremely-healthy\/\"> 83 percent decline<\/a> in daily trading volume since January 2018. However, Malta-based Binance continues to enjoy its stronghold over the global cryptocurrency market. The Changpeng Zhao-led exchange registered $17.5 billion in trades last February, dropping to $9.4 billion dollars in June.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hong Kong-based OKEx experienced a rather uncanny increase in volume throughout June and July, with trading volume increasing from $2.8 billion to $2.9 billion.<\/p>\n<h2>Portfolio &#8216;Rebalancing' Comes to Coinbase<\/h2>\n<p>Additionally, portfolio rebalancing application Shrimpy has added support for Coinbase Pro according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/hackernoon.com\/shrimpy-introduces-rebalancing-to-coinbase-d34210fc4c58\">official blog post<\/a>.
