Shiba Inu (SHIB), one of the largest meme coins in the crypto space, has arrived on Solana via Sunrise, now providing Solana market access to the Ethereum token's canonical form.
The update allows SHIB to be accessed and traded directly within the expansive decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem of Solana without the need to jump out of the ecosystem to access the crypto token.
Solana described Shiba Inu as "one of the largest communities in crypto" and pointed out how the project has expanded beyond its origins as a meme cryptocurrency with a dog-themed mascot.
Crucially, the Solana debut doesn't mean SHIB is leaving Ethereum. The original form of SHIB is an ERC-20 token. Nor does it mean Shibarium is moving to Solana. Sunrise is simply bringing in the canonical Solana representation of the asset to be able to trade within Solana's markets.
Wormhole Labs-powered Sunrise is an asset gateway designed to bring assets from external ecosystems to Solana.
This includes the creation/recognition of a canonical Solana token, provisioning liquidity, and integration with wallets, DEXs, and aggregators.
That's important to note because otherwise multiple unofficial versions of the same cryptocurrency can exist on a blockchain. As a result, there may be fragmented liquidity.
On the other hand, Sunrise seeks to create a canonical mint that has the issuer's approval
Welcoming external assets
Back in November 2025, when Sunrise first launched, the asset gateway's major listing was Monad's MON. Since then, the list has grown a lot.
For example, in September, Dogecoin made its way to Solana via Sunrise and Wormhole NTT.
On Sept. 18, PEPE came to Solana. Per Solana's tweet, the meme cryptocurrency that lives on Ethereum is now accessible across Solana applications via Sunrise.
SHIB's muted response
SHIB has so far seen very little meaningful price response to the Solana news, despite the increased ecosystem reach.
At press time, the meme cryptocurrency is trading at around $0.0000057.
Nonetheless, the integration has significantly expanded SHIB's on-chain trading options.
