BlackRock has signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding with SBI Holdings and Singapore-based Web3 developer Startale Group. At stake is the creation of a next-generation digital ecosystem that will connect BlackRock's institutional money market funds (MMF) with the yen stablecoin JPYSC.

The partners plan to move traditional capital "onto the rails" of distributed ledgers, starting with the technological integration of the platforms and strict tailoring of products to Japanese legislation.

SBI calls this step a necessary preventive measure. What does Ripple have to do with it (although there is not a word about it in the document)

In the agreement itself, the abbreviation XRP and any mention of Ripple are, as expected, absent: legally, the deal is formalized between other legal entities. However, for the market, this move by BlackRock looks unambiguous: the investment giant is entering Asia through a "proxy" of its indirect competitor.

SBI Holdings is not just a local player, but a key strategic partner of Ripple in the East, co-owner of the SBI Ripple Asia venture and the main lobbyist for interbank settlements based on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). Moreover, the Japanese conglomerate is also one of Ripple's largest shareholders.

Obviously, BlackRock is pragmatically abandoning the idea of building liquidity in Japan from scratch. Instead, it is leveraging SBI's established, legally compliant payment network, whose technological base has historically grown alongside Ripple's solutions.

The involvement of developers from Startale Group only confirms the scale of the initiative: the partners plan to aggressively scale the yen tokenization model tested in Tokyo to the entire global capital market. For Ripple, this could become an indirect but significant boost in Asia.
